Pluto - The Dwarf Planet

Pluto is named after the Roman God of the Underworld. Did you know that Pluto was earlier classified as a planet? Today we know it as our favourite and most well-known dwarf planet, but before the 24th of August, 2006, it was classified as a planet. The 24th of August 2006, was the day Pluto was declared a dwarf planet. But, what is a dwarf planet? A dwarf planet is a planet that is smaller than other planets, but bigger than asteroids. The confusion of whether Pluto is a planet or a dwarf planet took place because Pluto, unlike other dwarf planets, is irregularly large. Large enough to be confused with any normal planet. The thing is that Pluto is not equal to and does not exceed the size limit that would differentiate a dwarf planet from any normal planet, but is extremely close enough to the limit. Despite its size, it has 5 moons, and yet Earth has only 1! Pluto is the largest dwarf planet ever discovered till date, but scientists think that there could be lots of more dwarf planets larger than Pluto itself! Pluto has a highly irregular diagonal orbit around the sun. Pluto is at a distance of a whopping 5.906 billion kilometers from the Sun! One day on pluto is equal to 6.4 Earth days. One year on Pluto is equal to 248 years on Earth.
