Jupiter is the king of planets! It is the largest planet in our Solar System! In fact, you'd be surprised to know that Jupiter has a very large impact on the entire Solar System. You all know Newton's law of gravity, which says that the more the mass of an object, the more the gravity it has. Since Jupiter has a HUGE mass, its gravity is several times more than that of Earth. In fact, the gravity here is so much, that it would crush all of our bones. Earth's atmospheric pressure and gravitational force is so much that it'd be like 10 elephants standing on us and our everyday objects. Well, why aren't we already crushed to smithereens yet on Earth? Because our body exerts the same amount of pressure from the inside. Well, then! Why is our skin and all our organs not crushed yet? You know, the ones in between? Answer: Because we have adapted to! So, because of Jupiter's massive gravity, it hauls giant asteroids away from the earth and onto itself. If Jupiter wouldn't have been there, earth would have been bombarded with asteroids and we would have been destroyed! Peaceful and harmonious life here would have been impossible! Jupiter is at a distance of 778.37 million kilometers from the Sun. It has a radius of a whopping 69,911 kilometers. Jupiter's atmosphere mostly consists of Hydrogen and Helium in super-large amounts. Hydrogen is a highly flammable substance, so there is one problem. Suppose an alien civilization was evil enough to set a spark on Jupiter! The whole planet would explode! Luckily, there are probably no aliens out there, so we never have to think about Jupiter being blown up by some 3-foot tall green fellows who landed in Roswell. Jupiter's core is probably rocky as scientist have not investigated it. Jupiter has 79 moons.
